The popularity of Social Media Platforms has drastically increased over the last decade because they provide this immense virtual medium that can be easily accessed by people of all ages, sex and backgrounds, allowing anyone to communicate and share their point of view no matter their location in the world.
What makes these networks a very powerful marketing tool is the very essence of human nature. People are very curious and they log in to their social media accounts every day ready to learn something new, whether it’s gossip about a friend, breaking news, an upcoming event, or new products. So, what can be more effective than advertising to people who are ready to learn about your business and if they are interested, they can contact you immediately with the click of a button?
But which social media should you invest in?
The answer can be tricky. Social media platforms are fiercely competing for popularity and what is the right medium for marketing today can easily be a waste of money tomorrow. To help you decide, we brought to you the updated Social Media Platforms ranking as of April 2018, shared by the popular statistics site Statista.com.
The ranking is based on monthly active users on each social media platform (in millions). The market leader Facebook has beat their own record by exceeding 2 billion monthly active users, which makes it the first platform to think of when it comes to reaching a large audience and increase awareness of your brand. Third-ranked video sharing application YouTube exceeded 1 billion monthly active users; a good choice if you are planning to advertise using a video format. Instagram comes in sixth place with 813 million monthly active users. Meanwhile, Twitter comes in at eleventh place with only 330 million active users. These figures are still expected to grow in the future as mobile device users and mobile social networks are steadily increasing.
